Two Indian men and a Bangladeshi woman were arrested for trafficking people for money without valid documents, police said today.
Acting on inputs that some Bangladeshi nationals are travelling from Dawki border to Guwahati by a vehicle, Ri Bhoi police had put up a check at Byrnihat yesterday and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS-01-FJ-4645, with a female occupant in it.
Police said the woman identified as Jannati Sheikh (26, of Jasor, Khulna, Bangladesh was travelling with a driver, who hails from Rangapani, Barpeta in Assam named Raushan Khan, with a forged Indian Adhaar Card in her possession.
During interrogation, police said, both admitted that they are the part of an organised network involved in trafficking people from Bangladesh to India and vice versa for money without valid documents.
Based on their revelation, one Balajied Khongsun (27) of Wahlyngkhat, Pynursla was also arrested in this connection.
A case has been registered at Nongpoh police station under sections 61(2)/319(2)/336(3)/ 340(2)/143(2)/152/212(a) BNS r/w sec 14(c)/14A(b)/14C Foreigners Act 1946, and investigation is on.
