Casual healthcare workers under the Health Department in Ri-Bhoi continued their protest for regularisation at Nongpoh Civil Hospital today.
The workers staged a hunger strike and held their black flags and banners in a bid to pressure the state government to meet their demand for regularised jobs for those who had worked 10 years or more in the Health Department as casual employees. More than 100 people took part in the protest today.
Aihunlyne Nongsiej and Iohnam Mashari, the leaders of the Ri-Bhoi Progressive Health Casual Workers Union, said that they are compelled to hold this protest as the state government had turned a deaf ear towards their demands.
