The District Magistrate of Ri-Bhoi has informed that several complaints, reports and grievances have been received regarding the operation of unauthorised toll gates along national highways, state highways and major district roads of Ri-Bhoi.
The government has taken a firm stand and adopted a ‘Zero Tolerance’ policy towards the existence and operation of illegal toll gates, a press release said today. Installation of illegal toll gates and barriers for forcible collection often obstruct the seamless flow of traffic, causing inconvenience to road users and is also hazardous from a safety point of view and may attract road accidents.
Therefore, with a considered view to prevent leakage of public revenue, the District Magistrate hereby strongly prohibits the operation of unauthorised toll gates/check gates and any form of forcible collection along all the highways and major roads of the district. Violations shall be dealt with as per legal provisions.
