Ri Bhoi district, popular for its traditional cuisines, now has a café dedicated to serve local food and encourage innovation in local recipes.
‘Mei Ramew Café’ or the Mother Nature Café was today inaugurated at Khweng village.
Plantina Mujai, who owns the café said the main objectives is to encourage food entrepreneurship and support local economy, promote traditional food that is sourced from the environment and land from where it is produced and to promote personal hygiene and cleanliness for community wellbeing.
Mujai said the café has the support of the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), a grassroots organisation that seeks to enhance sustainability of agrobiodiversity through the promotion of local food.
NESFAS representative Khrawborlang Wahlang was also present on the occasion.
