Casual health workers employed by the Health Department in Ri-Bhoi staged a protest today to demand that their jobs be regularised.
The protest, organised by the Ri-Bhoi Progressive Health Workers Union, was held on the campus of Nongpoh Civil Hospital, with hundreds taking part.
The workers are also demanding timely disbursal of their salaries. In the past, representative A Nongsiej said, they have experienced delays of months, if not years.
Under a government scheme for casual workers, these health workers say that they deserve permanent positions as most of them have been working for the Health Department for more than 10 years.
