Education Minister Rakkam Sangma held a review meeting with MLAs and officials on the status of pending infrastructure projects across the state and districts.
During the meeting, it was revealed that several projects have been delayed for the past 10-15 years. Sangma emphasized the need to expedite the completion of these projects.
Key projects under review include the construction of science and commerce colleges in Mawphlang, Mahendraganj, Rongjeng, and Patharkhma, along with the DIET construction in Williamnagar. While some projects are progressing at different stages, the minister has directed the implementing agencies to accelerate the pace of work.
The minister also addressed the ongoing construction of polytechnic institutes in various districts. Delays were attributed to several factors, including sluggish work by contractors, technical challenges, and land-related disputes.
Regarding the EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools) projects, land issues have been identified in Mawkynrew, Khatarshnong, and Rongara. Sangma instructed the respective Deputy Commissioners to coordinate with landowners to resolve these matters promptly.
Of the 38 EMRS projects, 13 are at different stages of implementation, 16 are in the advanced stage of the tendering process, seven are undergoing documentation procedures, and three are facing land-related challenges, Sangma said.
