The Returning Officer of the Shillong parliamentary constituency, SC Sadhu, today met representatives of the political parties that are fielding candidates for the seat at next week’s Lok Sabha election.
There have been claims and counter claims by certain parties that supporters of rivals have disrupted political rallies. One stone throwing incident was also reported from Ri-Bhoi, believed to have been in connection with the election.
Sadhu requested the political parties to maintain law and order. He noted that Meghalaya has not had any election-related violence in recent years.
The official also urged all the political parties to request their supporters not to create havoc in the public meetings of others. He also advised them not to spread fake news or messages without verifying the information first.
