Protest against the construction of a solid waste management facility at Mawlwai village in Ri Bhoi continues as residents today attended a public meeting at Nongthymmai to dwell on the subject once again.
The residents of Madan Raid Kyrdem who initiated the protest have now garnered the support from the Ri Bhoi Dorbar, Ri Bhoi Youth Federation, Voice of the People Bri u Hynñiewtrep, Ri Bhoi District, the Eastern Ri Bhoi Development Council as well as village elders and sordars under the Raid.
The meeting decided to vehemently stand against the plan as they fear that the dump could pollute the sources of water for surrounding villages. They said that the project should be shifted to other locations but not in Ri Bhoi.
