A residential building for the Hope Children’s Home for boys was today inaugurated at Sohkhyllam village in South West Khasi Hills district.
The building was constructed at Rs 5.5 lakh donated by the Khasi Jaiñtia Welfare Association (KJWA) through its Research Cell.
Deputy Commissioner, Caramai Kharkongor, Mawkyrwat MLA, Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, President of Hope Children’s Home were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Kharkongor said that the orphanage will bless the children who no longer have anyone to feed or take care of them and also give them guidance, education, and discipline. She encouraged the children to stay in their homes and not feel alien about it and urged the management to give their best services.
KJWA President, G. Reenbohn informed that the association was established in 1977 at KJP Higher Secondary School at Mission, Shillong through Rev.T. Reenbohn, Pa’iem Olensing Syiem among others.
Chairman of Research Cell KJWA, Prof. S.S. Majaw said that the research cell was constituted in 2013 at Nongwar in Shella where they breed bees, and gradually organized essay and letter writings in Khasi language, conducted various workshops, etc.
