A meeting to combat the menace of drugs in South West Khasi Hills was chaired by Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar here yesterday.
The meeting resolved to strengthen the Dorbar Shnongs to look into the problem of illegal narcotics.
The MLA told reporters that he will also seek assistance from the state government to set up a full-fledged rehabilitation and detox centre in the town to help addicts return to normal life.
The meeting also saw a suggestion to set up streetlights at Riatthawlong for the safety and security of passersby.
Tongkhar lauded the Dorbar Shnong, Village Defence Party, youth and women’s organisations, including pressure groups, for their efforts to tackle the drug issue, which is destroying the youth and their families.
He also assured that he will provide volunteers torchlights, umbrellas, raincoats, etc for the purpose through the MLA scheme.
