The state Education Department has announced the release of the first instalment of the Umbrella Scholarship for ST students.
Only the roughly 66,000 students who have linked their bank accounts with their Aadhaar number have or will receive the funds, however. The remaining 7,902 (more than 10 percent of the total) have yet to complete the linking process but have been given a window in order to do this. They will then be issued with the scholarship.
The Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department stated that 20 percent of the total amount has been released as the first instalment, with the balance to be released in two to three instalments based on the schedule of release of funds from the central government.
The department has adopted a new approach to ensure that every eligible student receives their due amount in every instalment.
This scholarship should not be confused with the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, which was announced during the last budget session of the Assembly. Registrations for that scheme will commence after the formal notification of the scheme and its detailed guidelines.
The Education Department initiated the release of the first instalment of the Umbrella Scheme on June 20 for 66,000 students whose bank accounts are actively linked with Aadhaar. For the remaining 7,902 beneficiaries, an SMS notification was sent advising them to verify and update their Aadhaar seeding/linking status with their respective banks.
Beneficiaries have 15 days to comply with the Aadhaar linking requirement, after which the payment files of those who have successfully updated their Aadhaar linkage will be processed.
