The regularisation of casual workers at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) depends on the decision of the central government, the Vice-Chancellor said today.
NEHU casual workers, under the banner of All NEHU Workers Union (ANWU), have been protesting for several weeks now to demand the regularisation of casual workers’ services.
Vice-Chancellor Prof PS Shukla said that the varsity is compiling the data for regularisation, equal pay for equal work and compassionate appointment of casual workers.
The records available at the university, which have been submitted by the workers to the administration, will be compared and examined as per the law and instructions issued from the government of India.
Shukla added that NEHU is trying its best to consider the realistic demands of all the casual workers. The university has implemented the central minimum wage rules for all casual workers since 2018, the VC added. All arrears have been cleared, though some workers have not received their pay in the last few months because they have not submitted their Aadhaar cards, as is mandated.
He urged them to call off their agitation and go back to their jobs, warning that necessary action will be taken if they do not.
