The Pynursla unit of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) today dared regional parties that are members of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) to pull their support from the ruling coalition.
In a press release, the TMC unit described the regional parties’ stand as hypocritical in being part of the government while also criticising it for the border deal struck with Assam.
“On the one hand they claim to be speaking on behalf of the state’s tribal interests but have no spine to withdraw support from the ruling coalition led by the NPP (National People’s Party),” TMC Pynursla unit joint secretary Dominic S Wankhar said.
MDA members like those in the United Democratic Party (UDP) have attacked the border deal but Wankhar said that the UDP was part and parcel of the agreement and are trying to hide their responsibility.
“As per the CM’s statement, the MoU (with Assam) was signed in the presence of two ministers from the UDP, one minister from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and one from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP),” the release said.
There is also disunity in the MDA, with NPP and HSPDP members in favour of the deal and UDP members against it.
“If the regional parties are looking towards making a dent (in the 2023 election) they should withdraw their support to the NPP-led government instead of playing with people’s feelings and gain some respect,” Wankhar concluded.
