In a notification issued on Monday, the government of Meghalaya has extended the time for submission of the reports to the state government by the three Regional Committees till March 31, 2025.
This was informed by the Chief Secretary, Donald Phillips Wahlang.
The governments of Meghalaya and Assam have appointed Regional Committees headed by Ministers along with MLAs and officers as members in the areas of differences between the two states.
The Regional Committees have been instructed to jointly visit the remaining six disputed areas as part of the work to resolve the border dispute.
The first phase of the Assam-Meghalaya border dispute was resolved in March 2022 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU resolved six of the 12 areas of difference between the two states.
The committees made recommendations that Assam would get 18.46 sq km of the disputed area and Meghalaya would get 18.33 sq km.
