The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) on Saturday inspected border villages under Hima Nongpsung and Hima Nongkhlaw in Ri-Bhoi after the Assam government erected boundary pillars without the consent of the local dorbar and villagers.
The RBYF inspected some villages that are situated close to Assam, including Bakhlapara, Hawla, Umrshru that the Assam government has erected boundary pillars on even though a resolution between the two states on the disputed border has yet to be finalised.
The pressure group rushed to the spot for inspection after some local villagers had informed it of the erection of boundary pillars.
The members of the RBYF uprooted the pillars and destroyed them in order to send a strong message to Assam and Meghalaya.
“The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation cannot tolerate such harassment faced by local people. Their land and their business establishments will be badly affected if the boundary pillars are erected and such harassment is meted out to the locals,” the RBYF.
