The Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) has called for the dismissal of the Additional District Medical and Health Officer of Ri-Bhoi for being “ineffective”.
This demand stems from a visit by the RBYF to Nongpoh Civil Hospital following numerous complaints of “mistreatment” of patients by hospital staff.
The RBYF urged the Medical Superintendent to take strict action against the nurse and other staff members implicated in the reported mistreatment of patients.
The pressure group expressed disappointment with the attitude of Additional DMHO, Dr AR Marak, who reportedly turned down a meeting with the RBYF citing a lack of authority to engage with the organisation in the absence of the DMHO.
This further frustrated the RBYF, which called for Dr Marak’s immediate removal from the post. The group also wants the state government to expedite the inauguration of a maternal hospital at Umran Parila, which would alleviate the burden on Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
