South West Khasi Hills district police arrested a rape and murder accused who had been absconding for over four years.
On March 6, 2021 a 12-year-old girl went missing from her home at around 5 in the evening. Her body was found the next day.
Police said post mortem confirmed that the minor was raped and murdered. The suspect was zeroed down but absconded.
Leaving no stone unturned, the investigating officer pursued with the case the traced the man to Byrnihat in Ri Bhoi district.
Police said the accused was brought to Mawkyrwat police station on July 22, 2025 and investigation is on.
