Khasi Students Union (KSU) president, Lambokstar Marngar today stated that there is rampant manipulation and corruption in the State when it comes to job appointments in various government departments.
“Our aspiring youths are asked for more than Rs 5-10 lakhs just to get appointed in Grade-IV posts and we strongly suspect that there is rampant corruption and manipulation when it comes to getting appointed,” Marngar said today while speaking at the oath taking ceremony of new office bearers of the KSU for 2020-2023.
“We demand transparent policies in job appointments because our youths are uncertain about their future, especially when applying for any government jobs because of all the corrupt practices. We fear that if such corrupt practices persist our youth would choose to carry arms,” he said.
He also criticized the State government’s decision to reimburse income tax paid by the All India Service (AIS) officers serving in the state while ignoring the plight face by the poor and needy.
“Who is the government oiling? The KSU has nothing to offer but we will always continue to be strong opposition to the injustice towards the jaitbynriew,” he said.
He also said that the people in power and the police department will have to take responsibility if anything happened to the KSU members who are arrested and tortured.
“They can treat us like terrorists but we will continue to fight for the cause of our people. Some people in power even try to bribe the KSU leaders but got a clear message that we cannot be bought. We are brave and determined and we will continue to fight and sacrifice for the cause of the indigenous people of the state,” he added.
Marngar also spoke on the need to prioritise quality education and said that the government must address problems faced by students in the rural areas, who have to travel more than four to five hours to reach their school while some schools remain closed during the monsoons because of poor infrastructure.
Stating that most of the high-ranking posts are also held by non-Khasi because of the corrupt and blinded attitude of the people in power, he said, “Turn your eyes to the rural school and education and build proper schools in every district headquarters.”
