Shillong, Dec 4: The Governor’s official residence in Shillong, the Raj Bhavan has been renamed “Lok Bhavan” following a directive from the Union Home Ministry (MHA).
A notification to rename the Raj Bhavan, issued on December 2 and shared with the media today, said the “Raj Bhavan Shillong shall henceforth be referred to only as “Lok Bhavan, Shillong.”
It may be recalled that the Conference of Governors in 2024 suggested renaming Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans, noting that the term Raj Bhavan “smacks of colonialism”.
