The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that due to a cyclonic circulation that lies near Jharkhand, as well as the monsoon trough’s proximity to the Himalayan foothills, vast amounts of rain will lash North East India this week. During the week, south-westerly winds will also be predominant over the eastern half of the Gangetic plains all the way to the North East region.
As a result, fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are expected in Meghalaya and other states of North East till September 2.
Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall (115.5 mm-204 mm) is also possible over Meghalaya, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh from August 31 to September 2.
