A total of 171 villages were affected and 9577 people felt the impact of monsoon rains in the State. 135 houses were also damaged.
Following the progress of the monsoons over the last one week, 46 infrastructures were reportedly damaged, and 27.303 hectares of crops were destroyed.
In East Khasi Hills, due to incessant rain and sudden rise in flash flood water, one life was lost to drowning. Probinus Warbah drowned at Umrynjah River. Ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh will be released to the next of kin.
Damages were caused by rainfall, lightning and landslides to residential houses, roads at Mawryngkneng and Mawsynram Blocks, as also the Wahtyllong and Pomlum-Laitlyngkot Road.
In West Khasi Hills, one Kantly Maram died due to lightning strike at Nongkroh village. Ex-gratia payment released to next of kin.
Moreover, two houses were partially damaged at Tiehsaw and Lawrapha affecting 11 family members. Landslides also took place at Umlipoi and Mawkaton villages roads. A wooden bridge was washed away by rain water at Ryndi river. Alternative route has been made.
In Eastern West Khasi Hills, landslides in villages under Mairang Block and Mawthadraishan Block caused damages to four houses. Agriculture crops were also damaged due to landslides at Kseh Mawnai village under Mairang Block.
About 15 hectares of plantations of Chayote and paddy were damaged due to heavy rainfall and strong wind at Nongsohpi village under Mairang Block as also in Mawkamoit and Myriaw under Mawthadraishan Block. Damage assessments to houses and crops are being carried out by the respective Block Offices and District Agriculture Office.
In South West Khasi Hills, 17 villages and 143 population were affected with 25 houses damaged. Authorities have distributed tarpaulins to the seriously affected households.
In West Jaintia Hills, reports of minor landslides and tree branches falling were received from Jowai and Kharkana. In Sankhat village under Amlarem sub-division, a house in a vulnerable spot was evacuated and essential supplies given to the affected.
In East Jaintia Hills, landslide that occurred along the National Highway-6 at Sonapyrdi, Kuliang and Pyrtakuna, and road towards Pala under Saipung Block had been cleared within 2-3 hours and vehicular movement are plying normally.With the possibility of flood like situation, the district administration is fully prepared for any relief assistance in village like Borghat and Natbor.
To stop the heavy downpour of water from the hilltop on the stretch of the National Highway-6 at Lumshnong, steps had been taken to ensure uninterrupted vehicular movement while closely coordinating with the Mining and Geology Department Team for technical support.
In East Garo Hills, 13 villages with total population of 92 were affected wherein six houses were fully damaged and 18 houses are reported to be partially damaged due to incessant rainfall. Assessment is under progress for fund release to the affected families. In addition to the above-mentioned damages, steps are being taken to clear the roads obstructed by landslides.
In South Garo Hills, very heavy rainfall has affected the normal lives of the people resulting in flood and landslide in some places and due to which power was disrupted in the district. Relief camp has been set up at Karukol Jalaigre Lower Primary School and seven households were evacuated to the relief camp. Relief has already been distributed to the affected families at Karukol.
The washed away road at Darang Boldak is under restoration process and direction has been given to the Executive Engineer PWD Road to restore the same at the earliest. The partially damaged road at Siju Ganggagittim was already restored by the PWD on June 17 itself. All the landslides at Rongsha Awe area have already been cleared by the PWD.
In South West Garo Hills, two houses were partially damaged by landslides. In West Garo Hills, four families of 12 persons in Dharamsala, Tura have been shifted to a relief centre. In North Garo Hills, 15 villages comprising 32 houses with a total population of 132 were affected wherein 30 houses were partially damaged and two houses fully damaged.
