The Raid Laban Dorbar has expressed its concern over the recent burning of Raid Laban forest and also the Riat Laban Reserve Forest near Shillong Peak.
“This burning of the forests is an attempt to destroy young trees, plants, herbs, wild flowers and also wildlife like birds, animals and insects,” the Raid Laban Dorbar said adding that such destruction of forest posed a threat to the environment and availability of water.
The executive committee of Raid Laban Dorbar in its meeting held on March 2 has urged all people residing close to the forests to stop such burning of forests. It also said that it had directed fire watchers to apprehend any person involved in forest fire.
“We expect that all our residents will be alert and cooperate with us in protecting forests,” the Raid Laban Dorbar said.
