The Public Works Department (PWD) has assured construction of two vital link roads in Rilbong area to be completed latest by February next year.
This comes after an inspection was conducted by South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai today.
The road will connect the main entrance gate of Arts and Culture Building and the Umshyrpi PWD Road. It is expected to benefit not only the residents of Rilbong but also those in the Greater Laban area.
Shullai expressed his gratitude to the Arts and Culture department for allocating land for the project and urged the police department to cooperate in handing over additional land required for the construction.
At present, Laban area has only two entry and exit points, which can lead to traffic congestion in emergency situations. The new link roads will provide an alternative route, helping to alleviate these issues and ensuring that school-going students can commute without getting stuck in traffic jams.
The project has a budget of about Rs 5.6 crore.
