Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today announced that, to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of his father, the late Purno A Sangma, who was a Lok Sabha Speaker and Meghalaya CM, all iconic infrastructure built in the state during his tenure will be given a facelift by the government.
Inspecting Tura Super Market, which was inaugurated by Purno in 1998, Conrad said that it was the brainchild of his father and that the people of Garo Hills associate the project with him.
The four-storey market complex was one of the biggest market complexes in the entire North East when it was commissioned. Many had raised eyebrows saying that such a market was not required in Tura, which was considered to be a very small town then.
Conrad said that the market deserves a facelift and upgrades of its infrastructure and the state government will initiate the process to immediately consider the repair and restoration of various amenities within it.
He informed that certain repairs and renovation of the infrastructure will be considered, including a facelift of the restroom facilities. He also informed that the government will identify different interventions and initiatives of Purno’s and budgetary allocation will be provided for implementation of the works across the state.
