The District Transport Officer of East Khasi Hills, D Lamin, has asked the public to officially file a complaint with the department if they come across commercial vehicles charging them above the rate fixed by the government.
“If taxis are charging the public extra then they should complain to the office so that we can summon the drivers or vehicle owners for taking advantage of the situation,” he said.
The government has not fixed a new rate for commercial vehicles since the last revision in 2020, he said, and the department has also distributed pamphlets summarising the orders to commercial vehicle drivers.
Despite rumblings in the press and social media, Lamin said that the department has not received any official complaint from the public on the matter.
