Justice HS Thangkhiew has urged the public to come forward and assist people who are in need of judicial aid by enrolling themselves as paralegal volunteers, which are the first point of contact between the general public and the judiciary.
The Meghalaya High Court judge said this during a legal services programme organised by the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA), held in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, Health and Family Welfare Department, Community and Rural Development Department, East Khasi Hills District Legal Services Authority and other stakeholders, yesterday at a health camp-cum-awareness programme on the NALSA (Effective Implementation of Poverty Alleviation) Scheme 2015 and government welfare schemes under the theme ‘Bridging the Gape’ in Dangar.
Justice Thangkhiew, who is also the executive chairman of MSLSA, enlightened the gathering about the NALSA (National Legal Services Authority) schemes.
Expressing his satisfaction about the realisation of the programme, he lauded the various departments for taking keen interest in making the programme a success, which will be beneficial for the general public at large.
He encouraged the gathering to take advantage of the programme and to visit various stalls put up by different departments and avail the services that are available to them.
During the programme he also visited the stalls as well as handed over assistive devices comprising wheelchairs, hearing aids and walking sticks to people with disabilities.
