The authorities have imposed orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) that prohibits the assembly of five or more people in Jarain village as there are worries of disturbances of the peace.
The order was passed after objections were raised to the resumption of the Old Market in the village, the appointment of an acting headman and the alleged highhandedness of the Doloi Elaka Amwi, Acting Waheh Shnong and Secretary Shnong. In light of this the authorities have proposed the delay of the resumption of the Old Market until the issues are resolved. These will have to be settled by the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) as the issues are of a “tribal matter” a press release said today.
