Jowai, Dec 17: The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has re-issued an order restricting any activities that will further pollute the Myntdu River and its tributaries.
The order passed under Section 163 of the BNSS bans sand mining and stone quarries all along the river Myntdu and on the river bed.
Washing of clothes and vehicles, dumping of spoils and waste materials, both solid and liquid, as well as waste/muck from road construction into the river is also banned. The fresh order prohibits dumping of waste including diapers and sanitary pads into the river.
Littering or depositing any form of waste (plastic, household waste, road- construction residue or any materials along the banks or into the Myntdu river is also prohibited.
