The process to select a new Director General of Police is underway, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma informed today.
R Chandranathan, who has been in the role since 2018, is scheduled to retire on December 31.
Earlier, opposition leader Dr Mukul Sangma of the Trinamool Congress, said that the selection should go through the State Security Commission, as per the State Police Act 2010. He urged the government not to deviate from this.
The CM stated today that the process involves preparing a list of suitable names and communication with the Union Public Service Commission, which has already begun.
