The Search Committee constituted by the State government has started the process of filling up the vacant post of chairperson in the State Lokayukta.
According to sources, the person eligible to apply for the post should have served as a Chief Justice of any High Court or a person who has been a Judge of the High Court or an eminent person who is a person of impeccable integrity, outstanding ability having special knowledge and expertise or not less than twenty-five years in the matters relating to anti-corruption policy, public administration, vigilance, finance including insurance and banking, law and management.
The age limit for candidates for the post is not less than 45 years. The last date for submission of applications by candidates is June 30.
The person empanelled as chairperson of the Meghalaya Lokayukta shall hold office for a term of five years from the date of entering office or until such person attains the age of 70 years whichever is earlier.
Retired Gauhati High Court judge Pranoy Kumar Musahary was the first chairperson of Lokayukta in Meghalaya.
The Lokayukta is empowered to probe allegations of corruption against public functionaries such as the chief minister, deputy chief minister, ministers, speaker and deputy speaker of Assembly, MLAs, besides government officials.
