Shillong, Aug 22: The All Primary School Teachers’ Association (APSTA) held a rally on Friday to highlight issues concerning its members.
APSTA is opposed to the Meghalaya Education Grant (MEG) continuity for deficit teachers. MEG is the state government’s initiative to unify teachers in a single system, thereby phasing out the deficit system.
Specifically, the association is opposed to the provision that the posts held by current deficit teachers will not be affected but, after their retirement, the post will be transferred under MEG.
APSTA is also against the issuance of CPS (Contributory Pension Scheme) personal accounts, demands filling up of vacant posts, advocates for one school account and is against the Meg-SIMS Portal in rural areas.
The rally, which started from Jail Road Puja Mandap to Golf Links Community Hall, was attended by hundreds of teachers from East and West Khasi Hills districts, the association estimated.
