Pressure groups comprising the KSU, FKJGP and HNYF have demanded the state government withdraw its directive compelling mandatory Covid-19 vaccination for retailers by June 24.
In a petition to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the leaders of the three NGOs expressed their resentment at the directive issued by the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills for compulsory vaccination for all shopkeepers, hawkers and even labourers.
“The directive, in the first instance, is an uphill task to be completed within June 24 and only implies the denial of the right to livelihood to the common citizens of the country who are already in crisis due to the extended lockdown,” pressure groups stated.
They claimed that such an order violates fundamental rights, including the right to consent when it comes to any kind of medical treatment.
