Two pressure groups from War Jaiñtia, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU-War Jaiñtia Circle) and Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People’s (FKJGP-War Jaiñtia Circle), have expressed their concern over the containment zone order issued by the West Jaiñtia Hills district administration in Darrang and adjoining areas due to Covid-19 cases.
“Though containment zone has been declared in these area, but cross border trade with Bangladesh is going on,” the groups said.
The KSU and the FKJGP has urged the district authorities not to turn a blind eye to the difficulties being faced by the people of the area.
“We are not against border trade but we want the people to get their equal share,” a statement stated.
The KSU and the FKJGP also concurred with the demands of the conglomeration of traditional heads that the border trade with Bangladesh should be stopped for the time being with the surfacing of the virus in the area.
“We don’t agree that the movement of the villagers should be restricted and the border trade is functioning,” they said.
