Four pressure groups that have been at the forefront of campaigns to crackdown on supposed illegal infiltration into the state have expressed their gratitude towards the government for inaugurating the entry-exit checkpoint at Umling in Ri-Bhoi today.
Leaders of the Khasi Students Union, Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People, Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation and Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front also witnessed the opening of the checkpoint.
These pressure groups also promised to observe how the checkpoint functions in order to ensure that it fulfills its role in keeping illegal immigrants out of Meghalaya.
They also assured that they will not let up in their demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit, even with the launch of the checkpoint.
