The Upper Shillong unit of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has come out in opposition to a proposed purchase of land by the Eastern Air Command in Mawnianglah.
KSU members met with the Divisional Forest Officer of Shillong Division, T Wanniang, today on the matter of the air force’s purchase of 18 acres of land.
The pressure group said that the experience of locals when other military units have set up their facilities, such as 58 Gorkha Training Centre in Happy Valley, has not been pleasant.
The GTC facility was in the news recently for a scuffle that broke out between members of the public and troops over access to a road.
