The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has petitioned the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner to halt a scheduled election to the office of Rangbah Shnong, planned for later this month.
The election on May 29 has been planned by the Umsning Town Dorbar.
In a letter, HITO said that the election would violate the Epidemic Diseases Act 1897 and United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Prevention of Epidemic Diseases) Act.
