The Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and the Ri-Bhoi district administration carried out a spot inspection at Umiam River today based on complaints that stocking of clinker was posing health hazards to the local people while also polluting the waterway.
Two youth had recently lodged a complaint with the Deputy Commissioner opposing the accumulation of clinker near the river, which is used for washing and bathing by the local people.
The accumulation of clinker near the river was brought to light after the DC imposed a limit of 10 tonnes per truck that wished to cross a nearby bridge.
