The Election Commission is yet to announce the date for the Assembly election to Sohiong constituency.
Polling for Sohiong Assembly constituency has been postponed following the demise of the former home minister and UDP candidate from the seat, Horju Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh on February 20.
The Assembly elections were conducted in 59 out of 60 constituencies in the wake of the sudden demise of Lyngdoh.
The UDP has indicated that Lyngdoh’s nephew Synsharlang Lyngdoh Thabah may be the party’s candidate from Sohiong as and when the date of election is announced by the Election Commission.
The candidates that are in the race include sitting MLA Samlin Malngiang (NPP), S Osborne Kharjana (Congress), Sandondor Ryntathiang (HSPDP), Seraph Eric Kharbuki (BJP) and Stodingstar Thabah (Trinamool Congress).
There are a total of 34,783 voters in Sohiong constituency of which 17,687 are females.
