After busting a gang of notorious kidnappers from under the Tikrikilla Police Station limits in West Garo Hills, sustained questioning of the accused led police to recover two country-made guns that were used by the kidnappers in the recent kidnapping of a fish trader from near the village of Bogulurbhita.
On December 6, a fish trader, Sayful Islam, had gone to supply fish to a marriage party and was reportedly abducted by the same gang. A ransom of Rs 15 lakh to be paid in three days was demanded of Islam’s family.
Quick intervention by the police led identification of a house in the village of Bandagre where, upon seeing the police approach, the kidnappers abandoned the victim and fled from the spot.
Police, however, managed to identify and then nab four of the gang members two days after the incident and another member a day later.
“After their arrest and questioning a second operation was conducted and illegal firearms used by the gang and incriminating evidence were recovered from the spot after observing all legal formalities,” said a report by the district police.
