Anti-narcotics police launched an operation in the heart of busy Polo Bazaar today afternoon, arresting six drug peddlers, seizing heroin and other drugs and nearly Rs 1.5 lakh in cash.
In addition, 27 drug users who came to buy drugs were also apprehended. Four of the suspected drug peddlers are men, the other a woman.
Police seized 8.97g of heroin, 286.93g of cannabis, 20 Nitrazepam pills (a hypnotic drug of the benzodiazepine class), 330 empty vials, 10 syringes, three empty tobacco tins, six mobile phones, one two-wheeler, two local taxis and Rs 1,49,280 in cash.
One of those arrested is an accused involved in a separate police case who had escaped from Shillong Civil Hospital on August 6. Four women were also detained by police for obstructing their duty.
