East Khasi Hills district police has cautioned the public against any bogus offer to buy or sell old coins by agents who identify themselves as those of Indian Old Coin Private Limited citing ongoing fraudulent activities.
In a press release today, Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem said the department has received numerous complaints related to fraudsters claiming to be agents of the company dealing in old coins and buying them for a huge amount of money.
Syiem said the modus operandi of the fraudster is that they send the victim a QR Code for online transactions and once the victim scans the code, the money is deducted from their bank account.
“It is hereby advised to the general public not to fall prey to such scams,” he added.
