In another breakthrough in cases of bike theft, North Garo Hills police arrested two persons suspected to be involved in the crimes while also recovering two stolen bikes.
As per police sources, based on intelligence reports, a stolen Scooty was recovered by police personnel of Bajengdoba in the district.
On thorough inquiry, it was found that the Scooty was stolen from Tura in 2019 and a case was registered at Tura police station.
The recovered Scooty was handed over to its rightful owner while the person, strongly suspected to have stolen the Scooty has been apprehended and handed over to the police team of Tura police station.
In another incident, one person was trying to sell off a stolen Bajaj Pulsar bike at Mendal area in North Garo Hills.
The police team intercepted and apprehended the person along with the bike.
On inquiry, it was found that the apprehended person is a member of a gang involved in stealing two-wheelers from Assam and Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district.
The apprehended person has been handed over to the Byrnihat police for further action since the case has already been registered in Ri-Bhoi.
Police sources further added that in a span of nine days, two stolen bikes and one stolen Scooty have been recovered.
“We request everyone to check and verify the authenticity of documents properly before buying any second hand vehicle or bike from any unknown person,” warned North Garo Hills superintendent of police, Abraham T. Sangma.
