Blaming the corruption of politicians, which has led to siphoning of funds meant for the construction of low cost houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the State vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Tura MDC, Bernard Marak has vowed to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
Marak was referring to the non-implementation of PMAY schemes, which, he alleged, was the reason for the people being badly affected during recent storms; localities around Tura have witnessed destruction of property due to strong winds.
“Politicians who diverted the funds sanctioned for pucca houses under PMAY are paying Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 to victims of the storm in place of the Rs 1.3 lach to cover up the scam,” he alleged.
He added that people of Garo Hills suffered during cyclonic storms because they still live in kutcha houses because PMAY schemes were not sanctioned for the poor.
“In Tura, women applied for the low cost houses four years ago through the Tura Municipal Board but till now no PMAY houses are visible in the entire town. These kutcha houses were the ones destroyed,” said Marak while terming the meagre payments made to victims as a cover up.
“The interesting part is that after assuring PMAY to the people of Tura, the TMB has now replied through RTI that they are not dealing with PMAY schemes. The public was made to pay the holding taxes and clear dues in false assurance of PMAY,” he alleged.
The BJP leader said that he would seek details of the scheme while BJP teams will monitor every scheme sanctioned by the BJP-led central government and ensure that every scheme reaches the right people cutting across party lines.
