Shillong, Mar 9: The Federation of Meghalaya Self Help Groups & Mahila Mandal (FMSHG & MM) has appealed to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for government support to protect the livelihood of Self Help Groups (SHGs) facing severe operational strain.
In a memorandum, the groups acknowledged the opportunities provided under ICDS, which has supported their livelihoods and enabled community service. However, they highlighted challenges such as outdated transportation rates, partial quarterly payments, and rejection of non-conventional food items, leading to financial strain and wastage of resources.
The SHGs requested the revision of transportation rates to reflect current market conditions, full and timely quarterly payments, review of non-conventional food items to prevent wastage, review of pricing for fortified items to ensure sustainability.
The groups emphasized that these challenges affect not only their livelihoods but also their sense of stability, and urged the government to intervene to ensure fairness and stability in the system.
