Shillong, Feb 12: The Garo Students Union (GSU), Nengkra Regional Unit has urged the State government to approve construction of a new bridge over the Rongtam River in Nengkra Agalgre, East Garo Hills Hills district.

The new bridge will ensure safe and uninterrupted passage across the river, improve access to schools, health centres and markets, boost socio-economic development in the region and prevent accidents and loss of life during floods, the GSU said.
According to the union as per a letter from the Williamnagar Executive Engineer Public Works Department to the Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Nengkra unit dated July 26, 2024, an estimated amount of Rs.1556.25 lakh for construction of the bridge is awaiting approval.
The union urged the Chief Minister to allocate the sanction funds for timely completion of the project.
