The picturesque village of Moolamylliang, in East Jaintia Hills, was appreciated by its VIP guests – Rajya Sabha MP WR Kharlukhi and Shillong Lok Sabha MP Vincent Pala as they paid a visit yesterday.
Moolamylliang is one of five model villages, declared by Kharlukhi, in the state. Of late it has attracted a lot of visitors for its cleanliness and greenery.
The two MPs were present on the occasion to release the village magazine, aptly titled ‘Pristine Picturesque’.
In his speech, Kharlukhi said that it is vital that Jaintia Hills and Meghalaya as a whole become surplus producers of agricultural produce, like the case was 100 years ago.
Pala, while praising the village authorities and the citizenry, said that it is important that bamboo and trees be planted in order to offset the effects of humans.
Meanwhile, the two MPs were also present together to open the VIP gallery of the Lamyrsiang football ground, which was built at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. Pala had contributed Rs 30 lakh out of the MP scheme for the project.
