The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, organised a two-day photo exhibition on freedom fighters of the North East at Ramakrishna Mission Higher Secondary School, Mylliem.
The exhibition showcased the freedom struggle of India through a series of photo exhibits. An outreach programme also aimed to promote good nutrition behaviour and highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to combat malnutrition.
The DHEO of East Khasi Hills, O Sumer, in her speech gave a detailed description about the value-based traditional food for physical growth, brain development and combating anaemia. She laid stress on the enhancement of macro and micronutrients and the qualitative food intake. She also stressed on the relativity of food to various lifestyle diseases and the method of eating right. She concluded her speech by motivating students to take the weekly folic acid tablet once a week and albendazole deworming tablet twice a year in order to eradicate anaemia.
Icydora Nongrum, principal of the school, said that this event will go a long way in educating the people, and the students in particular, about the supreme sacrifice made by our freedom fighters for the cause of the motherland, especially those from the North East. Speaking about nutrition, she exhorted all the students to maintain a balanced diet and to ensure to consume at least five food groups in a day, namely carbohydrates, proteins, pulses, dairy products, vegetables/green leafy vegetables.
Various competitions were organised among the students of the school during the two-day event. Prizes were distributed among the winners in the quiz, singing and art competitions during the valedictory function held yesterday.
