The upgrade of Manggakgre Health Sub-Centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) sparked confusion during an Assembly discussion today, with Dadenggre MLA Rupa Marak questioning Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on supposedly contradictory statements regarding its status.
Marak sought clarification on whether the sub-centre had been officially upgraded, pointing out that the minister initially confirmed the upgrade but later stated that the process was still ongoing.
Lyngdoh responded, “The decision to upgrade the sub-centre to a PHC has already been made. Whether or not the work is in progress, we have said yes; the work is ongoing.”
The foundation stone for the project was laid on December 9, 2022. The tender was floated by January 18, 2023 and construction began in November that year. As of January 2025 progress of the work stands at 85 percent
In response to a further question, the minister said that, until the PHC upgrade is complete, the facility will continue to function as a health sub-centre and have the requisite staff for that status.
