Shillong, Jul 27: A primary health centre (PHC) in Rongsak, East Garo Hills, has been without a medical officer for the past two months, an organisation called the A·chik Dedicated Integrity Leaders (ADIL) has informed the District Medical and Health Officer.
This is not an isolated issue but is something that has been recurring for years, ADIL said in its letter, and comprises medical support for the people of Rongsak and surrounding villages.
Due to the absence of a doctor, pregnant women in labour are sent to distant hospitals and other patients are also unable to access emergency and/or routine treatment when required.
