The Excellence Award on Arts, Literature and Social Service was conferred on various outstanding personalities from Assam and Meghalaya for their meritorious service and contribution to society.
In recognition of the cultural exponents of the North East region of India, Riti Academy and Media Plus initiated the first ever Rana Kharkongor Memorial Award in association with Anuprerona to cherish his contribution in the field of music and film.
The award ceremony was graced by eminent cultural exponent of Meghalaya, Silbi Passah as chief guest at Shillong Club yesterday.
Passah recollected her fond memories of Rana Kharkongor as the versatile musician and patriotic lyricist. She also acknowledged the impressive contributions of Raphael Warjri in the field of arts, film, theatre and media.
The Rana Kharkongor Memorial Award was conferred on Kalpana Kalita from Tezpur on Film and Theatre Writing and Acting.
The other Excellence Award on Literature and Social Service was conferred on Podomi Gajlu from Bokaghat, Aloka Barua Sohoria from Mangaldoi, Sashi Prabha Devi from Tezpur, Anwara Begum from Dhubri, Pranita Sharma Bordoloi from Guwahati, Sultana Laila Anjum from Haju, Surojit Barua from Guwahati, Monomoti Kurmi from Tezpur.
The Excellence Award on Arts and Culture was conferred on Thomas Mylliemumlong and Wanrida Pyngrope of Shillong for their spectacular performances in the field of arts and culture.
Thomas Mylliemumlong is the recipient of the excellence award for the relief sculpture mural at State Central Library and Wanrida Pyngrope for her commendable performances in few of the Khasi films she acted in. She was also the recipient of the Prag Cine Award for Best Female Actor.
As part of the memorial award, the daughters of Rana Kharkongor, Maphidalin and Mana Corianda Kharhunai presented a song from his album while the ladies recipients of the awards performed the Bihu dance and song.
The award ceremony was hosted by Anuprerona, a socio-cultural organisation from Guwahati Assam founded in 2014 by Dhindranath Chakravorty, Founding President and Deep Jyoti Saikia, Founder Secretary.
